The River Valley soccer team knocked off Richland Center 2-0 in SWC action Thursday night. The visiting Blackhawks netted a goal in each half and made it stand on the way to the win against their longtime rivals.
The first goal was made by Virgil Villup at 29 minutes. The 1-0 lead stood through halftime and the Blackhawks made it 2-0 at 47 minutes. Tyson Luther assisted James Deibert and River Valley scored an insurance goal. Blackhawks keeper Dylan Perry led the defense to a shutout.
Richland Center was competitive throughout the 80 minutes but could find the combination to score. Caleb Fetterly was in goal for the Hornets. Strong play from Connor Stoltz, Josh Nelson, Shawn Adams, Henry Martin, and Andrew Matta was not enough to turn away their opponent in front of the home crowd.
The Hornet JV team won 3-2 over visiting River Valley in the 5:00 pm game.
Following the 2-0 Varisty win, River Valley will travel to the Sugar River tournament on Saturday. Richland Center will prepare for another conference game on Tuesday at Prairie du Chien.
